I put synthetic on my first oil change, made the clutch slip. Went back to straight motor oil, had to change it again after 50 miles to flush out the synthetic. PS.I think I may check mine (gear oil) every other year (season), but then again, I may be lucky to put on a couple thousand miles a season. There are, however, filters with better filtering media vs. paper found in most filters. Mobil 1 M1-110 is one of them. Bosch 3323 is another. Both filters are made by Champion Labs and have the new media. Both are fine for the 1300.
